Fire crews were busy on Friday morning responding to two separate blazes in south Calgary.

One fire began around 9:30 a.m. in the community of Shawnessy. Crews responded to the 0-100 block of Shawbrook Close S.W. for a house fire.

The fire appeared to have started in an upstairs bedroom of the home, according to the Calgary Fire Department (CFD).

It was quickly extinguished, so damage to the house was limited, but there is smoke damage throughout.

“A woman, already outside, had suffered burns to her face and hands after trying to extinguish the fire and then evacuating,” the CFD said in a release.

“She was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation and burn injuries.”
