Possible abduction call leads to arrest of Kitchener man in Chatham [Video]

A Kitchener man has been arrested in Chatham-Kent after police were told about a possible abduction.

Around 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, local police were contacted by Peel Regional police and learned a suspect was believed to be in the north and of Chatham.

Chatham police were able to find the suspect’s vehicle on St. Clair Street and a traffic stop, but the vehicle sped up southbound on St. Clair Street, disregarding traffic signals.

At 6:34 p.m., the vehicle was involved in a crash at the intersection of Grand Avenue West and St. Clair Street but continued westbound on Grand Avenue until the vehicle stopped due to mechanical issues.

According to police, a man got out of the driver’s seat and fled on foot, trying to avoid being arrested — officers were able to find the man hiding on private property.
