A Tofield RCMP officer was involved in a shooting while searching for a wanted man on Monday.

On Dec. 23 around noon, police went to a Beaver County home to arrest a man on outstanding warrants.

Mounties contained a perimeter around the residence, informed neighbours for their safety and called the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team in Edmonton for backup before attempting to arrest the man.

Police say the man was killed during an interaction at the scene. No other RCMP members or neighbours were injured.

Attempts to save the man were unsuccessful.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has been instructed to conduct an independent investigation into the shooting.
