Canada’s capital, parts of southern Ontario and Quebec are under a freezing rain warning with hazardous road conditions possible into the weekend.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued the warnings for Ottawa, parts of southern Ontario and Quebec shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday saying to expect wet and freezing conditions starting on Saturday morning.

Residents in affected areas can expect patches of freezing rain and slippery conditions due to icing.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery,” the agency says. “Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.”

The GTA and surrounding areas could see between 15 to 30 mm of rain over Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Environment and Climate Change Canada says.

Travellers should be prepared for varying weather conditions on roads across the province.
