6,679 assault cases reported to police in 2024 in Mississauga and Brampton [Video]

As the year draws to a close, the persistent challenge of assaults continue to be a prevalent concern in the neighbourhoods of Mississauga and Brampton, with over 6,600 incidents reported to police in the last 12 months.

From Jan. 1 to Dec. 28, Peel Regional Police data indicates 6,679 assaults were reported across both cities —  3,223 in Mississauga and 3,450 in Brampton. In addition to these numbers, there was one incident in Halton Hills and five others in Toronto that fell under Peel jurisdiction.

Compared to other crimes plaguing the Peel region, assaults ranked first for 2024:

Compared to 2023, motor vehicle thefts ranked as the most frequent crime last year, followed by assaults.
