A 75-year-old Lunenburg County man is in hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Bridgewater, N.S., Friday morning.

Bridgewater Police Service, the Bridgewater Fire Department, and Emergency Health Service (EHS) personnel responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of High Street and Victoria Road around 8:45 a.m., according to a news release from Bridgewater police.

The call indicated that a person was stuck and trapped underneath the vehicle, says police.

Upon arrival, officers say they learned that the 75-year-old male was attempting to free his vehicle from a snowbank on High Street when a second vehicle ran over the man and also struck the man’s vehicle.

Police say they arrived first to the scene and were able to free the man from under the vehicle.

The man sustained significant injuries and was transported to South Shore Regional Hospital by EHS, and then subsequently airlifted to the QE2 Hospital in Halifax where he remains.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
