Elections Alberta officially confirmed the results of the recent Lethbridge-West provincial by-election, declaring a win for NDP candidate Rob Miyashiro.
He finished with a total of 7, 230 votes, defeating UCP candidate John Middleton-Hope, who came in second with just over 6,000 votes.
The Alberta Party captured just 1.7 per cent of the ballots.
Miyashiro is a lifelong Albertan who served two terms on Lethbridge city council and held leadership roles with the Blood Tribe youth ranch and the YWCA.
This marks the first riding win for the Alberta NDP under new leader Naheed Nenshi, who succeeded Rachel Notley earlier this year.
