An elderly man has been killed in a house fire in Shubenacadie, N.S.

East Hants District RCMP and fire crews responded to the home on Highway 215 around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say a 65-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman managed to escape without injuries.

However, the third occupant of the home, a 73-year-old man, died at the scene. His identity has not been released.

Police don’t believe the fire is suspicious, but they say investigators are still gathering information and evidence.

The Nova Scotia Office of the Fire Marshal, the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service, Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime and RCMP Forensic Identification Services are assisting in the investigation.
