Getting home safely on New Year’s Eve: Details on free transit rides and extended service [Video]

Local transit agencies are offering free rides and extended service to help get people home safely after they ring in the new year.

Guelph Transit

Guelph Transit will be offering unlimited free trips starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

After 12:45 a.m., the special offer will be restricted to the Northeast Loop, Northwest Loop, Midwest Loop, Southeast Loop, Southwest Loop and Downtown University Shuttle. Those routes will run every 30 minutes with the last bus leaving Guelph Central Station at 2:15 a.m.

Grand River Transit

Grand River Transit is not offering free trips this year, but they are extending service on routes 7, 8, 12, 51, 53, 61, 201, 202, 204, 205, 206 and the 302 ION bus. The last LRT train will leave Conestoga Station at 12:10 a.m. and Fairway Station at 1 a.m.

Grand River Transit will also be running on a holiday service schedule on New Year’s Day.
