First babies born in N.S. and N.B. in 2025 [Video]

A boy in Cape Breton and a girl in Saint John were the first babies born in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick this year.

According to Nova Scotia Health, the province’s first baby of 2025 was born at 12:13 a.m. Wednesday at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney.

Nova Scotia Health says no other details about the baby boy will be released.

In New Brunswick, the Horizon Health Network says a couple welcomed their baby girl Aliana at the Saint John Regional Hospital at 12:14 a.m.

Horizon also noted a baby girl named Annlena was the first baby born at the Moncton Hospital, at 1:14 a.m., while a girl named Lily was born at 2:37 a.m. at the Miramichi Regional Hospital.
