A man accused of robbing five Toronto-area banks in a 10-day period has been arrested by Toronto police.

Toronto Police Service (TPS) say they responded to five calls between Dec. 20 and Dec. 30 in the areas of Islington Avenue and Rexdale Boulevard, Eglington Avenue East and Laird Drive, Eglington Avenue West and Renforth Drive, and Royal York Road and Lawrence Avenue West.

They allege that in each incident, a lone male entered a bank brandishing a knife, demanded cash and secured it before fleeing each bank.

Police say they arrested 36-year-old Jeffrey Laviolette on Jan. 2 and have charged him with five counts of robbery with an offensive weapon.

He was scheduled to appear in court Jan. 3.

Anyone with further information about the robberies is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
