Port Moody marina death deemed suspicious, IHIT called in [Video]

Homicide investigators have taken over the case of a body found in the water at a marina in Port Moody on New Year’s Day.

In a statement Saturday, the Lower Mainland’s Integrated Homicide Investigation team said it has assumed conduct of the investigation into the discovery, which occurred around 9:20 a.m. Wednesday at the Reed Point Marina on Barnet Highway.

On Thursday, the Port Moody Police Department said its major crime unit was investigating after the body of a woman in her 60s was retrieved from the water.

The PMPD said criminality had not been ruled out in the case, a point IHIT reiterated in its statement Saturday morning.

“The circumstances surrounding the death have been deemed suspicious and criminality cannot be ruled out at this time,” the statement reads.

IHIT said it is working with the PMPD, RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Services and the BC Coroners Service to advance …
