Nearly one year after a door plug blew off a 737 MAX 9, Boeing says it is making progress in safety and quality.

Passengers on Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 experienced a frightening failure when a the door plug came off, leaving a gaping hole in the side of the plane. The Boeing 737 MAX 9, flying from Portland, Oregon, to Ontario, California, was forced to make an emergency landing back in Portland after reaching an altitude of approximately 16,000 feet.

“It’s so sudden and unexpected. You feel comfortable getting onto the aircraft, and then something like this happens — it can really shake you,” Tim Loranger, an attorney who represents some of the passengers on the flight, said. Loranger is one of multiple lawyers representing clients who have filed civil lawsuits against Boeing, Alaska Airlines and Spirit Aerosystems.

The incident left many passengers, like Dan Laurence’s clients, afraid to take to the skies.
