The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada awarded the town a certificate of achievement for the 33rd year in a row.

VERNON, Conn. — Much has changed over the course of three decades, but the town of Vernon’s excellence in financial reporting has stood the test of time.

According to a release from the town earlier this week, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada awarded Vernon a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2023.

It is the 33rd consecutive year that the association has bestowed this recognition upon the town.

Vernon Mayor Dan Champagne said in the release that it is the duty of a government to be careful stewards of taxpayer dollars. He added that the government must be transparent in how it manages that money.
