Golf continues to surge in Winnipeg, according to new numbers from the city.

A new report on the agenda for the property and development committee shows more than 107,000 rounds of golf were played in 2024 during the 192 days of operation at city-run courses.

“It’s been a number of years consecutively now where golf has been in a fairly healthy position,” said Ben Fey, the general manager of Golf Services for the city.

Between 2010 and 2019, city-run courses averaged 79,825 rounds played. That number has now jumped 29 per cent with an average of 103,225 rounds played between 2020 and 2024.

“The pandemic certainly provided a jolt to the golf industry,” said Fey. “So, there was a real boom over those two years, and there have been significant tailwinds experienced in the couple of seasons we’ve had since then. So, 2024 is certainly no different.”
