Pedestrian dies after crash involving Guelph city bus [Video]

A pedestrian has died after a crash involving a city bus in Guelph.

Police said they received a call just before 1:37 p.m. Wednesday for a collision at Wyndham Street North and Carden Street.

“The initial report was that a pedestrian was crossing the road when that person was struck by a bus that was making a turn,” explained Scott Tracey, the Guelph Police Service’s media relations coordinator.

Tracey said the pedestrian, a 49-year-old Fergus man, was extricated from under the bus by firefighters from the Guelph Fire Department.

He was pronounced dead a short time later.

No one on the bus was physically hurt.

“It’s obviously a very traumatic event. Anyone who witnessed it or was on the bus at the time and may have witnessed it from that perspective – our Victim Services Wellington staff are available for people to reach out and get some assistance in dealing with what they witnessed.”

The road was closed for several hours during the investigation.
