A Montreal-area man was charged with second-degree murder Thursday after what police describe as an armed assault Wednesday night.

Police were called to a fight in a home at around 8 p.m. on Saint-Gérald Street in the LeMoyne sector of Longueuil, on Montreal’s South Shore. Once they arrived at the scene, they found a 56-year-old male victim who was sent to hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Police arrested a suspect who was later questioned by investigators.

According to a charge sheet, Guy Durocher, 68, of Longueuil, is now charged with murder and one count of mischief to property under $5,000, which the court document described as “tires.”

The charge sheet identified the victim as Patrick Synnott.

Police had set up a security perimeter to allow investigators to canvass the scene.

The killing marks the City of Longueuil’s first homicide of 2025.
