A driver has died after crashing through a fence at a construction site in East Vancouver Wednesday, according to authorities.

Paramedics were called to 223 Prior St. at 9:35 p.m. for the single-vehicle collision and took two people to hospital, BC Emergency Health Services told CTV News.

One patient was in critical condition and one had minor injuries.

“This collision was the result of a driver suffering a serious medical event while behind the wheel,” the Vancouver Police Department told CTV News in an emailed statement, adding the individual has since died.

Police said criminality does not appear to be a factor in the fatal crash.
