KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (WBTV) – A man who pled guilty to charges related to the “Pizzagate” sex-trafficking conspiracy nearly a decade ago died after he was shot by police in Cabarrus County this past weekend.

Kannapolis police said Edgar Maddison Welch pulled a gun on officers when they tried to arrest him on Saturday, Jan. 4.

Welch had been riding in a GMC Yukon when officers recognized the vehicle. After pulling the Yukon over on North Cannon Boulevard, police found Welch – who had a warrant for his arrest – in the passenger seat.

Police said one of three officers at the scene opened the passenger door to arrest Welch, and when he did, Welch pulled a gun out of his jacket and pointed it at the officer. That officer and another ordered Welch to drop the gun. Police said he did not listen and the two officers shot him.

Medical aid was immediately given and Welch was taken to Atrium Cabarrus …
