A high-risk offender recently released from jail is back behind bars.

Marcel Hank Charlette, 52, was arrested at the Millennium Library on Saturday afternoon after missing a curfew check at his court-ordered residence.

During the arrest, officers found he was also carrying methamphetamine, which also violated conditions of his probation order.

Charlette was released on Tuesday from Headingley Correctional Centre, where he was serving a sentence for failing to comply with a release order.

In a previous media release, Winnipeg police said Charlette had a lengthy and violent criminal history. He was convicted in 1991 of manslaughter involving a two-year-old child, for which he served a six-year prison sentence. He has also been convicted of aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, carrying a concealed weapon and multiple court order breaches.
