Fire damages 2 homes near Kingsway [Video]

A fire damaged two houses near Kingsway early Monday morning.

The blaze that spread from one home at 118 Avenue and 122 Street to a south neighbour was first reported at 4:52 a.m., according to Edmonton Fire Rescue Services.

Neighbour John Hidber said he called 911 seconds after realizing flames were eating through the roof of one of the houses.

“Within about two minutes, the back side and the side of the house were also on fire,” he told CTV News Edmonton.

As of 5:30 a.m., seven firefighting units were still at the scene working to bring the flames under control.

No injuries had been reported at that time, although a resident of one of the houses said she and her brother woke up to flames and escaped with only their bed clothes.
