The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating after a man sustained serious injuries during an arrest in Dartmouth, N.S., last month.
Members of the Halifax Regional Police (HRP) took the man to the ground during his arrest on the early morning of Dec. 3, 2024. He was assessed by EHS and later taken to hospital.
On Jan. 7, HRP learned the man may have sustained injuries to his face during the arrest, including a broken nose, injured teeth and cuts requiring stitches, according to a news release.
Police arrested the man after responding to a call on Dec. 3 relating to a man walking around an area in Dartmouth without any clothes on. When officers located the man, he did not comply with their orders and began spitting at them.
SiRT assumed responsibility for the investigation due to the seriousness of the arrested man’s injuries.
