A Montreal man will go to prison for 30 months for trafficking methamphetamine following an arrest in New Brunswick seven years ago.

The Prince Edward Island RCMP says Andre Pelletier received the sentence – which comes with a lifetime weapons prohibition – at a Montreal courtroom last Friday. P.E.I. RCMP and Edmundston Police Department officers originally arrested Pelletier following a traffic stop in Edmundston on Jan. 24, 2018.

During the arrest, officers arrested another person and seized 11.4 pounds of methamphetamine (which equals more than 11,000 tablets) and 25 grams of cocaine, according to an RCMP news release.

The arrest was part of a larger effort to stop organized crime groups from supplying meth to P.E.I. Across the two-year operation, police seized more than 60 pounds of meth and three firearms.

Four people have been arrested and charged.
