Ottawa police and paramedics say a man was severely beaten on Nepean Street between Bank and Kent streets early Wednesday morning and the lone suspect is under arrest.

An Ottawa paramedic spokesperson told CBC they were called to the downtown block around 4:30 a.m. and found a man injured by a blunt object.

He was in critical condition when he arrived in hospital, police said.
