A 16-year-old suspect has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a newborn in Ontario, police say.

Ontario Provincial Police said that on Nov. 21 at around 1:30 p.m., police “discovered the body of a deceased newborn” at a home in Alliston in the Town of New Tecumseth.

Police said the “suspicious death” was ruled a homicide.

On Wednesday, a 16-year-old New Tecumseth resident was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and indignity to a human body.

The accused remains in custody and was scheduled to appear virtually in a Barrie court on Thursday.

The investigation is ongoing.
