A Toronto resident says he’s ready for a stronger Canadian prime minister after hearing Justin Trudeau’s resignation speech on Jan. 6.

“Someone who’s strong, forward thinking. Someone who can stand up to Trump,” said Stephen Thomas, who has lived in Toronto for the past 20 years. 

 “I’d still like to see the Liberals in power, with some fresh faces.”

Trudeau has been facing pressure for months from many of his Liberal parliamentarians to step down and allow someone new to lead the party, considering the Conservative party has an unswerving lead in the polls for the next federal election.

Trudeau has also been reckoning with U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s recent economic threats toward Canada. Trump pledges to increase tariffs on all imported goods by 25 per cent on his first day back in office.
