More than 180 homes, farms, businesses and the local community centre in rural Sandford in Uxbridge Township can now heat their homes with natural gas, thanks to a pipeline project funded by the provincial government that could cut energy bills of rural customers in half.
Ontario Energy Minister Stephen Lecce and Ontario Finance Minister and Pickering-Uxbridge MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy were in Sandford, located just north-west of Uxbridge’s commercial centre, on Friday to deliver the news that the Sandford Project – part of Phase 2 of the government’s Natural Gas Expansion program – was complete.
“The new natural gas pipeline, right here in Sandford, is a vital infrastructure project that will enhance energy security and support economic growth across the region,” said Bethlenfalvy. “By ensuring reliable access to cleaner energy, it paves the way for sustainable development and improved quality of life for local businesses, residents, and farmers.”
