Canada’s Marion Thnault wins aerials bronze at World Cup season opener in Lake Placid [Video]

Canadian freestyle skier Marion Thénault won a bronze medal at the season-opening World Cup aerials event in Lake Placid, N.Y., on Saturday night.

The Sherbrooke, Que., native earned a final-round score of 90.94 points to claim her 11th career World Cup medal, finishing behind reigning Olympic champion Xu Mengtao of China (95.52) and Australia’s Danielle Scott (95.17).

Alexandra Montminy, an 18-year-old from Lac Beauport, Que., posted a career-best 11th-place finish with 62.68 points.

Marion Thénault of Sherbrooke, Que., finishes third in the women’s aerials competition at a FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup stop in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Quebec City’s Alexandre Duchaine was eighth in the men’s competition.

In the mixed team aerials event, Canada won silver behind China with Australia taking the bronze. Thenault helped Canada win Olympic bronze in the event at the 2022 Beijing Games.
