Ontario power workers draft solutions to prevent energy crisis in the province [Video]

As Ontario’s power demands continue to rapidly grow, experts are rushing to develop long-term solutions to keep the province’s lights on. 

A recent report by the Ontario Power Workers Union (PWU) presented the current risks looming within the province’s current energy management systems.

The overview was created in response to the provincial government’s Powering Ontario’s Growth strategy from 2023, which outlined future infrastructure changes to better support overall provincial energy efficiency until 2040. 

The Ontario Electricity System’s Risk and Mitigation report released this month by the PWU noted that the province’s current resource management system is not sustainable and that if the desires the provincial government mentioned in the 2023 incentive are to be met, all parties must work faster. 

According to the report, the PWU’s rapid solutions include:

  • Managing reliability risks: Updating outdated power supply equipment and managing daily, weekly and seasonal power demands more efficiently.
