With temperatures across southern Ontario dipping into minus double digits on Monday and for the next several days — down into the -20s C at night with the wind chill — such human activity on Pearson’s tarmac is sure to ramp up.

The people we’re talking about are the airline ground handlers and apron workers “who keep people, planes and bags moving” at Canada’s biggest and busiest airport during such frigid spells.

“Our teams who are working outdoors are responsible for tasks such as loading and unloading baggage, refueling (the planes) and guiding planes to the gate,” Pearson Airport officials said in a post to social media on Monday, adding the outdoor workers deserve “a big shoutout.”
