Much of the province will wake up to extreme cold warnings with temperatures as low as -32 C with the wind chill in Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto, and most of southern Ontario.

Environment Canada issued extreme cold warnings for the GTA on Tuesday, expecting to be the coldest day of the year with a wind chill making it feel like -22 C and -29 C overnight.

But the mercury will drop even more on Wednesday with a low of -9 C in the morning that will feel more like -32 C with the wind chill, the agency says.

There’s a risk of frostbite as an Arctic airmass brings bitterly cold wind chills to the region, and Environment Canada says to dress warmly and in layers that you can remove if you get too warm.

“Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill,” the agency says.
