Possible ward boundary changes in Brampton won’t occur until after the provincial election.

At a city committee meeting today (Jan. 29), local councillors decided to hold off on the matter because the outcome of the Ontario election may affect the decision.

With changing population trends putting Brampton ahead of Mississauga, councillors believe this will impact representation on the Peel Region council and that, ultimately, the Ontario government will have a say in the matter.

Councillors expect to bring the issue back in the spring.

What’s on the table could affect the 2026 municipal race if the boundaries for the wards change.

The city’s current 10 wards were established in 2014, but a more than 10 percent population increase over the last decade has led to some areas of Brampton growing faster than others, the city says.
