The Town of Whitby has come out in support of federal and provincial pushback against economic tariffs from U.S. President Donald Trump, endorsing Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s ‘Fortress Am-Can’ plan and calling on Ottawa to “take any and all measures” to protect the interests of Ontario in upcoming trade negotiations.

The motion from Whitby council asks that Canadians get behind government efforts to strike a deal with the United States that will result in “a win for all involved” in strengthening the economy and keeping Ontario jobs.

Ottawa has established the Canada-U.S. relations council to support the government as it deals with U.S tariffs, with representatives from the auto sector, unions, industry and agriculture.

The motion also endorses Ford’s Fortress Am-Can initiative to strengthen security on land, water and in the air along the Canada-U.S. border, including protecting Arctic sovereignty,

Council also wants the federal government to “remove any impediments” …
