Police are on the lookout after a series of ATM scams have occurred in southern Ontario.
A release on behalf of the Huron OPP Detachment has revealed that, on Jan. 28, three separate incidents involving bank machines occurred between Exeter (South Huron) and the Town of Goderich.
Law enforcement officials allege that during the two incidents that took place in Exeter, both victims, aged 64 and 67, respectively, were in the process of accessing bank ATMs when they were then approached by an unknown individual who claimed they could assist the victims.
The suspect(s) then swapped the victim’s bank cards with fakes during each interaction.
Police allege that the suspect(s) then stole money from the victims’ accounts after obtaining their PINs.
One victim lost $900 while the other lost $1,400.
The third incident, which occurred in Goderich, involved a 95-year-old victim who was using an ATM at their local bank branch.
