At first glance, noticing that Milton received roughly the same amount of January snow as the amount recorded at Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga isn’t a surprise.
Now, what if you learned this particular Milton isn’t the Ontario town 35 kilometres west of Canada’s biggest and busiest airport, but instead a small city of some 11,000 people in northwest Florida?
Milton, Florida, located about 110 kilometres east of Mobile, Alabama, received a tiny amount less snow than Pearson did in January.
It’s a rare occurrence, according to weather experts in the U.S., that any part of Florida — or other southern U.S. states for that matter — would receive a significant amount of snow at all, let alone a measure that rivals or even tops (in some cases) several Canadian towns and cities.
Pearson Airport officials noted the interesting tidbit in a post to social media Monday night.
