To offset rising costs, Henry Bell says businesses may have to rethink their supply chains.

TYLER, Texas — President Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs on Canada, China and Mexico are sending ripples through industries worldwide, and East Texas businesses are feeling the impact. 

However, the proposed 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico are on hold for now as negotiations continue. Local businesses are bracing for what comes next.

“If you have a business that is manufacturing or creating a product that part of its costs, come from some good, that good that they are getting from another country, they’re going to have to pay more for it,” Henry Bell, president of the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce, said.

Tariffs are essentially taxes on imported goods.

“It affects the consumer, and then the way it could affect the business as well,” Bell said.

Bell said they can impact businesses in two major ways.
