SAN DIEGO — President Donald Trump has temporarily halted plans to impose a 25 percent tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada, while a 10 percent tariff on Chinese goods is still scheduled to take effect Tuesday.

The president announced a 30-day hold on tariffs for both Mexico and Canada following last-minute agreements with the leaders of these countries. The decision came after Mexico’s president agreed to deploy 10,000 soldiers to their side of the border, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pledged additional cooperation on border security. 

If implemented, the tariffs would likely lead to higher prices on a wide range of products.
