Local grocer undeterred by possible tariffs on imports [Video]

Monnette’s Market in south Toledo says they have so few imported products that its customers might not even notice a change at all.

TOLEDO, Ohio — In recent days, President Donald Trump has dangled the threat of tariffs on three of the country’s biggest trading partners: China, Canada and Mexico. Democrats have been sounding the alarms, repeatedly stating the tariffs could lead to huge price increases for American consumers.

WTOL 11 asked Kyle Ryan, the manager of Monnette’s Market in south Toledo, what this could mean for his business. His response?

“Probably nothing, honestly.” 

Ryan said for smaller grocery stores like his, there’s little to fear. 

According to him, massive greenhouses have been built in Ohio, Kentucky and Michigan, supercharging the United States’ crop output year-round.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever had a Mexican tomato in the store,” said Ryan.
