Ontario tourism threatened by potential tariffs and election uncertainty [Video]

With an impending provincial election and the threat of U.S. tariffs, Ontario’s tourism sector is preparing for a fight on two fronts. 

This week, the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) released its Provincial Pre-Budget Submission, a document focusing on tourism-based economies in Ontario 

Strategies included high-speed rail systems, mass employment incentives and marketing investments from the provincial government. 

For Andrew Siegwart, CEO of TIAO, when rumours of a snap election and tariffs emerged, they dredged up substantial concerns for the direction of Ontario’s tourism economy. 

“They’re not a surprise, we have known that there were going to be challenges with the U.S. because these issues have been telegraphed to the tourism industry for quite some time,” Siegwart told INsauga.com. “We have been thinking about solutions that can be used to buffer these hiccups along the way.”
