A weather advisory has been issued for southern Ontario including the GTA.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a freezing drizzle advisory Thursday morning for southern Ontario extending from Niagara Region, Hamilton, Halton Region, Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto, Durham Region across to Ottawa and north to the Parry Sound area.
Freezing drizzle could lead to a light ice build-up and slippery conditions Thursday morning continuing through early this afternoon, the advisory stated.
The drizzle could be mixed with light snow.
“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery,” the advisory stated. “Freezing drizzle can produce thin, hard-to-detect layers of ice. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.”
The OPP has reported collisions and slippery road conditions.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said police have responded to multiple collisions across the GTA due to winter driving conditions.
“Please slow down and give yourself extra time,” Schmidt said.
Areas in grey are under a freezing drizzle advisory Thursday.
