Fremantle captain Alex Pearce has been officially ruled out of Saturday’s pre-season Indigenous All Stars clash at Optus Stadium with an ankle injury.

Pearce, who has lineage to the Palawa people of Tasmania, had been selected to represent the Indigenous All Stars against the Dockers.

The 29-year-old key defender tweaked an existing ankle injury in an intra-club practice match last Friday and was ruled out of the showpiece pre-season fixture following scans over the weekend.

While the club said the injury was “minor”, it would assess his availability for their next intraclub game on February 23 and their second official pre-season hit out against Melbourne on March 2.

The Dockers open the season against Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on March 15.

Pearce looked solid for almost three-quarters of match simulation at Cockburn before landing awkwardly on his left ankle attempting to spoil.
