A former track star, long-time journalist, social justice warrior and member of the Order of Canada has earned his latest accolade in his adopted hometown: the Clarington Mayor’s Office Challenge Coin.

Hamlin Grange, who arrived in Canada from Jamaica at the age of 10, has enjoyed an interesting life in the years since. A track star as a youth – he was a member of Canada’s junior national team and competed at the Olympic trials in 1976 – Grange earned a track scholarship to the University of Colorado before graduating with a journalism degree.

Grange worked as a reporter in Denver before returning to Canada to work as a news anchor and reporter for CBC, Global and the Toronto Star. He also is president and co-founder of a diversity and inclusion company and has received numerous awards over his career, including the Order of Canada for his social justice work.
