Nurses and hospitals remain trapped in negotiations as Ontario’s provincial election rapidly approaches.

The ongoing dispute between the ONA and their employers, the Ontario Hospitals Association, gained support from provincial NDP opposition leader Marit Styles, as she stood in solidarity with the ONA during a conference this Monday (Feb. 10).

Throughout the ongoing conflict, ONA representatives have signalled the desperate need to overhaul staffing strategies by implementing ratios for nurses and patients.

The ONA states that if there is one nurse for every patient in Ontario, the duty of care for Ontarians and nurse burnout will improve.

“Ontario needs to hire 25,000 more registered nurses just to catch up to the national average. We are at the bottom concerning the number of registered nurses in a Canadian province per capita,” Erin Ariss, president of the ONA, told INsauga.com.
