Heavy snow has led to crashes and delays across the GTA and southern Ontario.

The winter storm dumped more than 20 cm of snow in the GTA by Thursday morning.

The plows were out working to clear the roads, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said Thursday morning. He reported delays and minor collisions in the GTA.

“We don’t have a lot of crashes this morning but we do have a lot of cars slipping and sliding,” Schmidt said on X.

Vehicles were getting stuck in the snow, he said.

Schmidt suggested drivers stay home until the system passes and plows can finish clearing the roads.

A crash closed two left lanes on the westbound QEW between Niagara Stone Road and Glendale Avenue in St Catharines, the OPP said on X around 7:30 a.m. But the lanes had reopened by 7:50 a.m.
