Under the agreement, the South Texas Alliance of Indigenous People will be responsible for constructing and installing commemorative structures throughout the park.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi City Council has approved an agreement with the South Texas Alliance of Indigenous People for the construction of artwork honoring Native Americans at Hans and Pat Suter Wildlife Refuge.

Hans and Pat Suter Wildlife Refuge holds historical significance as the second-largest Native American burial ground in Texas. The initiative, known as the Ishka Project, has been in development for several years. 

Under the agreement, the South Texas Alliance of Indigenous People will be responsible for constructing and installing multiple commemorative structures throughout the park. The planned installations include a life-size bronze statue of a Native American man, a 30-foot diameter gathering circle, five smaller 10-foot gathering circles and an entrance sign.
