Another 20 to 40 cm of snow could hit parts of southern Ontario [Video]

After a big snowfall across the GTA and southern Ontario, more snow is forecast for parts of southern Ontario on Thursday.

Environment and Climate Change has issued new snowsquall warnings for areas north of the GTA including Newmarket, northern York Region, Georgina, Orangeville, Grand Valley, Dufferin County, northern Durham Region, Owen Sound, Blue Mountains, Barrie and Orillia.

Snow squalls off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay are expected to develop late Thursday afternoon or early in the evening.

Local snowfall accumulations of 20 to 40 cm could fall starting late Thursday afternoon in the Barrie and Owen Sound areas. Peak snowfall rates up to five cm per hour are expected.

Areas closer to the GTA can expect 10 to 20 cm of snow with peak snowfall rates of two to three cm per hour.

There will be poor to near zero visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow, the warning stated.
