Mississauga is on the verge of a “building boom” and a few other exciting developments as well, the city’s mayor says.

Shortly after taking the reins of office last June, Mayor Carolyn Parrish set about quickly putting together a task force to dig deep and find solutions to an affordable housing crisis that for years has gripped Mississauga and other municipalities across Ontario and Canada.

The Mayor’s Housing Task Force, comprised of more than 30 members from the City of Mississauga in addition to developers and builders,  presented its results-to-date report to city councillors and the public in late January. It identifies 30 immediate actions “to help kickstart development,” the city said.

Parrish and other task force members said the assignment was a success in generating ideas they expect will lead to many more new, badly needed affordable homes and rentals built faster in Canada’s seventh-largest city in the coming years.
