Police warn of potential scam involving fire equipment in Ontario [Video]

A new potential scam is emerging in southern Ontario that involves fraudulent fire safety.

A recent release by the OPP’s Orillia detachment indicated that yesterday (Feb. 21), local police were provided a strange pamphlet allegedly supplied to an intended target.

The document had no discernible business markings and simply stated that it was a home safety checklist with advice for fire safety procedures.

Upon further inspection of the pamphlet, an Orillia fire prevention officer determined that all information and equipment displayed did not adhere to the common Canadian standard.

Police also indicated that the document had no business-adjacent watermarks, address, or phone number.

Orillia OPP is warning individuals not to engage with any of these pamphlets if they are encountered, as they are likely being distributed with intent to commit fraud.

Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact Orillia OPP or send an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers.
