The Ontario fire chief confirmed the patient was a juvenile female.

ONTARIO, Ore. — Several EMS and fire units were called to Ontario High School on Tuesday, after someone was burned while plasma cutting. The fire chief confirmed that the patient was a teen girl.

The student was plasma-cutting in the school’s metal shop. Officials report that Ontario Rescue had just finished a separate medical call in the rural district and then responded to the school. Ontario Command 105 also responded. Treasure Valley Paramedics were at the school before Ontario’s fire units arrived.

Plasma-cutting is a welding process, where a jet of hot plasma is used to cut metals, steel and aluminum.

The girl was transported via air ambulance to a hospital, where her condition remains unknown, reports the Ontario Fire and Rescue Chief Clint Benson.
