The city is looking to help protect Brampton jobs and find new markets for local businesses ahead of incoming tariffs the mayor says will have “far-reaching consequences for the city.”

On Wednesday, Brampton City Council unanimously approved the creation of a new task force charged with “the diversification of Brampton’s trade relationships” as U.S. President Donald Trump says 25 per cent tariffs on all Canadian goods are coming next week.

Trump walked back the threats earlier this month but said again on Thursday that the tariffs on Canadian goods coming into the U.S. and another 25 per cent tax on Canadian aluminum will go into effect on March 4, “as scheduled.”
